Orrville Area United Way

Strategic Plan and Strategies for Achieving Goals
Revised 9/20/2016
Our primary value is a belief in the inherent worth and dignity of each person.
Everyone deserves opportunities to have a good life: a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family through retirement, and good health.
That’s why United Way’s work is focused on the building blocks for a good life:

• Education – helping children and youth achieve their potential

• Income – promoting financial stability and independence

• Health – improving people’s health and promoting wellness

United Way’s goal is to create long-lasting changes by addressing the underlying causes of these problems. Living united means being a part of the change. It takes everyone in the community working together to create a brighter future.
Orrville Area United Way’s Strategic Plan:

• Education Goal – Children are ready for school

o We support quality child care and programs that provide early learning opportunities. We also engage the community as volunteer readers and mentors to increase student success, which will improve the graduation rate.

• Income Goal – Families become financially stable

o We’re helping families become financially stable and make good choices by supporting programs like VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) as well as programs that provide resource assistance and financial education.

• Health Goal – Families and individuals achieve good health

o We work to improve health by supporting programs that increase access to quality medical care, substance abuse prevention and treatment, and child abuse and domestic violence prevention.

Strategic Projects

• Education – The Dolly Parton Imagination Library, our Percy programs for children in need, and Orrville Reads. We recruit volunteers and promote these initiatives. We provide staff time, expertise and caring on Wayne County’s Family and Children First Council, whose priorities include: children will be ready for school, children and youth will succeed in school, youth will choose healthy behaviors, and youth will successfully transition into adulthood.

• Income – Our VITA Site, our Percy programs for children whose families are at or below 175% of poverty, providing shoes, socks, winter boots, sheets, blankets, and weekend food.

• Health – Our United Way partners with agencies providing support to people working to become healthy, emerge from addiction, and to maintain their health.
