OAUW Seeking Volunteer Tax Preppers

The Orrville United Way has partnered with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistant (VITA) Program again for the tax filing year of 2022. Last year, our group of volunteers completed 117 returns totaling $223,000 in federal refunds and $20,000 in state refunds. Those are refund dollars being brought back into the local economy, and helping lower income families make ends meet. This is a great way to give back to those in need, in the community.

We are seeking volunteer tax preparers to participate in the program for the 2022 tax year. This program cannot be offered to individuals without our volunteers. Here is a short video link to understand a little more about the program: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddEX3OMSmDQ

The VITA program is a unique program to help your neighbors, friends, and those in the community! We provide all the training needed, so no prior tax experience is necessary. All preparers will become IRS certified in order to complete returns. In addition, we will provide a training for all volunteers to solidify logistics, go through tax questions/scenarios, and updates to the 2022 tax filing year.

As a volunteer, you are not required to come to every session, but we ask you commit to as many as you can. All returns will be prepared in person at the Orrville United Way office. For each shift, we are trying to fill 3-4 tax preparer slots. This year’s shifts take place on the following dates:

• February 7th 9-1 & 3-7

• February 11th 9-1

• February 14th 9-1 & 3-7

• February 21st 9-1 & 3-7

• February25th 9-1

• February 28th 9-1 & 3-7

• March 7th 9-1 & 3-7

If you are interested in becoming a tax preparer, please reach out to Liz Bogucki at Liz.Bogucki@jmsmucker.com no later than January 15th.
