Orrville Area United Way is pleased to announce that it will once again host the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program for the upcoming 2025 tax season. VITA provides free tax preparation services for families with household incomes generally less than $60,000, persons with disabilities, the elderly, and limited English-speaking taxpayers who need assistance filing their returns.
Staffed by IRS-certified volunteers, the VITA program offers free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals. In 2024, Orrville Area United Way helped file 154 tax returns, resulting in $138,356 in refunds and saving taxpayers approximately $34,000 in preparation fees. This vital program not only supports families in navigating the tax process but also contributes to the economic well-being of the community.
VITA services will be available at the Orrville Area United Way office, located at 135 N Main St., Orrville, OH 44667, on Wednesdays and Saturdays from March 5 to March 26, 2025. Daytime and evening appointments will be offered to accommodate a variety of schedules.
Appointments can be scheduled beginning February 3, 2025, by calling 2-1-1 and choosing Option 1. During the scheduling process, eligibility will be confirmed, and individuals will receive a checklist of the documents to bring to their appointment. Orrville Area United Way encourages eligible residents to take advantage of this opportunity to file accurate and timely returns while keeping more of what they’ve earned.
