Orrville Area United Way is happy to announce seven recipients of special summer grants. Twelve compelling applications were received from non-profits that are making valuable impact in the Dalton, Marshallville and/or Orrville area, and the Citizen Review Committee had extensive conversation over each one. Orrville Area United Way focuses funding in four impact areas addressing community needs effectively and responsibly. In the area of Nurturing Children and Youth, grants were awarded to OHuddle for mentorship for displaced youth and expanded programming at Wayne County Schools Career Center and to Stirrup Courage to provide scholarships for children in difficult situations to participate in equine-assisted activities. In the area of Developing Life Skills, grants were awarded to Orrville Public Library to purchase multi-age level Spanish-language and bilingual materials for the Library on the Go! Van and to OrrViews to invest in a high school senior intern. In the area of Helping in Hard Times, grants were awarded to The Salvation Army-Orrville for car repair and maintenance assistance and to Augsburg Lutheran Church to support the free Tuesday sack lunch ministry. In the area of Promoting Health and Wellness, a grant was awarded to Wayne County Children’s Advocacy Center to replace deteriorating client furniture.
This year, over half a million dollars were invested in the Dalton, Marshallville, and Orrville area because of the united work of Orrville Area United Way donors, volunteers, and non-profit partners. Since 1958, OAUW has raised and distributed over $17 million to eastern Wayne County programs that measurably improve quality of life by engaging the caring power of our community to foster a thriving society. August 16 will mark the kick-off of the 2024 Campaign – commUNITY!
