Orrville Area United Way (OAUW) hosted its Celebrating Community, Honoring Volunteers event on April 8, bringing together more than 100 guests for an open house filled with appreciation and connection. Held at B’s Deli & Café, the event gave supporters, volunteers, and partners a chance to reflect on the incredible impact made possible over the past year—and to celebrate the people who made it all happen.
OAUW staff shared their appreciation for a campaign year that not only met—but surpassed—its goal. Thanks to the community’s generosity, the organization supports 15 programs across 12 partner agencies, nine community initiatives (including five Percy Programs), and has announced an upcoming special grant opportunity. The Further Together Grant will make $30,000 available to support the evolving needs of the Orrville, Dalton, and Marshallville area.
The event also recognized the power of local volunteerism. In 2024, more than 400 volunteers gave nearly 2,600 hours of their time to help OAUW thrive—a testament to the caring spirit that defines the community.
As part of the celebration, two annual awards were presented to exceptional volunteers whose service exemplifies dedication and heart:
Sarah Colucy received the Gene & Mickey Workman Lifetime Achievement Award, which honors a legacy of lifelong service and community impact. In his nomination, Klay Kahle shared, “Sarah has consistently continued to not only provide her own skills and abilities to OAUW but has also brought people along with her to further the impact on the Orrville community. She serves not just to fill a position, but because she believes in the mission and wants to give back in every way she can.” Sarah serves as a board member, on several committees, and as a vocal champion—giving her whole heart and energy into serving others and making a difference.
Seo Conrad received the Patti Ayers “Yes!” Award, which recognizes those who quietly go above and beyond with a can-do spirit. Nominated by Jennifer Orr, Seo was described as “a role model for volunteerism and service.” From organizing her COVID Christmas Angels initiative—providing gifts for local families in need—to offering support through her food truck, Seo is known for giving generously from the heart. Orr wrote, “Seo is an amazing human being and a friend to all.”
Adding to the heartfelt tone of the day, Carol (Workman) Tufano and Jason Ayers—children of the award namesakes—joined the celebration to share personal reflections on their families’ legacies of service.
Guests enjoyed live performances by local musicians Dave Tibbitts with Jazz by Design, Ryan Speicher with the Orrville High School Band, and students from The Voice Studio, directed by Lorna Lynn Parks. A beautiful grazing table from B’s Deli & Cafe, festive balloon art by Conrad’s Creations, and handcrafted gifts from the Romich Makerspace Foundation helped create a truly memorable atmosphere.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined in this celebration—and to all who continue to make a difference, year after year.
