Orrville Area United Way is proud to partner with the American Red Cross Northern Ohio Region - “The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.”
The American Red Cross provides numerous programs and services. OAUW dollars support the Red Cross’s work in the area of Disaster Services. When there is a disaster-caused emergency, such as a fire, flood, or tornado, the Red Cross is required to respond within two hours of notification. Disaster Services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The Red Cross serves every person experiencing a disaster-caused emergency in the eastern Wayne County area without discrimination, working to meet a clients' immediate emergency needs and assisting with recovery efforts. Following a disaster, the Red Cross helps to secure food, clothing, and lodging; provide psychological and medical care by licensed, professional volunteers; and ensure families have immediate items such as hygiene comfort kits, blankets, and stuffed animals for children. Funds received from OAUW help the Red Cross bridge the gap between direct client financial assistance and the immediate needs of clients.
