On Saturday, August 24, Orrville Area United Way partnered with the American Red Cross to once again bring the Sound the Alarm campaign to the Orrville community. This event followed the first Orrville Sound the Alarm effort, which took place in May as part of the Day of Caring. Sound the Alarm is a national campaign led by the American Red Cross to reduce deaths and injuries from home fires by providing and installing free smoke alarms in homes across the country.

Volunteers from the Orrville Police Department, The Salvation Army Orrville-Maiwurm Service Center, the American Red Cross, and Orrville Area United Way came together to make the event a success, with support from the City of Orrville in preparation. These local partnerships play a vital role in enhancing the safety and well-being of our communities.

During the August event, 66 smoke alarms were installed in 27 homes, making 90 Orrville residents safer. This follows the initial event in May, where 45 alarms were installed in 21 homes, making 54 people safer. Together, these efforts have increased the safety of 144 individuals and 48 homes in our community.
